As a result of our positive response to customers and their response to us, we have created many long term and ongoing relationships with librarians, teachers and principals in a large number of schools throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific region. Our aim is to always listen to customers and to develop products and professional development services consistent with their current needs and as a result we have a culture of providing excellent customer service and consistency of product and services.

1. Products

Our collaborative approach with our customers where we listen and respond to their needs, has assisted Syba to become Australia’s leading supplier of library signage to schools. Established in 1998, Syba’s products and services have enhanced school learning environments with signage that is both educationally sound and attractive. Our products include directional, educational and motivational signage, books, and educational resources. Syba’s reach extends beyond Australia and we are proud our signage is now in more than 10,000 schools worldwide. Our products assist the librarians in their teaching programs since our products are in line with current educational theory and curriculum, and concurrently assist library students to find and use the library resources effortlessly thus increasing their ease and confidence with the use of the library.

Traditionally we have created products that directly fulfill the need of modern school and public libraries. We have done this by personal involvement with libraries, attending network meetings and other conferences and encouraging our customers to ask for what they need. In this way our products have been consistently current and useful.

2. Syba academy

Syba offers a range of professional development programs for teacher-librarians and other educational personnel. These programs were developed in response to our clients in New South Wales, who requested professional development opportunities with a school library focus. We now offer professional development seminars, online learning programs, and a speakers’ network for school inservice.

Originating in New South Wales, Syba Seminars have been extended to Queensland, the ACT, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore. Syba’s programs have been developed and delivered in collaboration with peak school library bodies, including the School Library Association of Victoria, the School Library Association of South Australia, AISWA Libraries, Western Australia School Library Association, School Library Association Queensland (Northern Queensland), School Library Association Queensland (Gold Coast) and Australian School Library Association (Tasmania). In New Zealand, Syba has worked with the School Library Association of New Zealand Aotearoa and the National Library of New Zealand. Syba has also worked with the NSW Department of Education and Training and the Catholic Education Office (Northern Queensland). Syba’s Guided Inquiry seminars are delivered in partnership with the Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries (CISSL) at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey.

Seminar content addresses the needs and concerns of school library personnel.
