Using Web 2.0 to support Teaching and Learning: Using Video & Advanced Internet Applications

Cliftons Training Facility, 200 George St, Sydney

We invite you to take part in a week long series of hands-on Web 2.0 workshops facilitated by Web 2.0 guru Chris Smith. Whether you are new to Web 2.0 or have been using web 2.0 for teaching and learning in your school, these highly hands on workshops are designed to be relevant and beneficial for all. Through these workshops participants will become more familiar with Web 2.0 tools, websites and applications. Participants will also be involved in ongoing discussions about how these tools could be used in classroom to support the learning of students.

 

 

  • Be better prepared as the digital education revolution – NSW program progresses to its full implementation in 2012.
  • Workshops are conducted in a fully set up and professional computer training room. Personal computers are supplied. We advise participants to use computers provided not laptops to ensure smooth running of the day.
  • Maximum of 40 delegates per session
  • A wide range of sessions available to suit all levels of experience


    Using Video for Teaching and Learning

    AM session: 9.00-12.15PM
  • Video as digital media is now highly accessible on the internet and is becoming a more common multimedia resource to use with your students.
  • We will cover 'where to find videos', and what to do with them once found. We will also look at some of the production and editing tools, especially those that can be used in a web browser. Other video-related topics covered will be screencasting, streaming video and embedding video into blogs and other webpages ... and, of course, YouTube.
  • If you already have a video camera then please feel free to bring along to show others ... I'll be showing my favourite ... the Flip Camcorder


    Advanced Internet Applications designed to save teachers time (RSS & PLN)

    PM Session: 12.45-5.00pm
  • Do your Students already have Blogs, Podcasts, Wikis, Websites and other online resources.... and you are needing to spend great amounts of time online checking their work.
  • One of the tools to help with this task is RSS ... Really Simple Syndication ... in this workshop we will clarify what this is and also set up an RSS aggregator so that the work from the Blogs of all of your students can be seen clearly all on one webpage.
  • We will also look further at what an online "Personal Learning Network" (PLN) is ... and how it might be visualised and quantified to save you even more time managing your own professional development.


    These sessions are designed to be of relevance to:
  • teacher librarians and classroom teachers in both primary and secondary schools and across all subject areas
  • support the work of ICT co-ordinators
  • raise awareness of practical application of web 2.0 tools in teaching and learning
  • be of interest to senior managers who wish to better their understanding of the new online tools and collaborative opportunities for teaching and learning and teacher professional development
